Car Spec

There are many different Cobra replicas available in the UK. Ours is a Dax De Dion.

Chassis
The chassis is bespoke, manufactured by Dax. It's a step up from a basic ladder chassis but its still box section with a bit of triangulation here and there. Ours has a "back brace" - the raised section over the transmission tunnel, which benefits torsional stiffness. It's probably still not that great though.

Body
Fibreglass gel coat body, all one piece apart from doors, bonnet and boot. There is a metal scuttle bonded in which bolts down to the chassis. The rest of the body is fixed with rivets and adhesive.

Suspension
Jaguar XJ6 (XJ40 - early 90's) except instead of IRS at the rear its a De Dion beam design.
Brakes: XJ6 Sport upgrade to larger diameter but are still single pot front calipers. Ford Escort master cylinder and servo with independent front and rear circuits.

Drivetrain
Differential: Jag Salisbury (open) 3.58:1
Gearbox: Getrag 265 as found in XJ6 and 1990's BMW M5's (I think - may be different ratios). 5 Speed manual, gear ratios as follows:

Gearbox ratio

1st Gear     3.38:1
2nd Gear   2.2:1
3rd Gear    1.4:1
4th Gear    1.00:1
5th Gear    0.81:1

Engine
1977 Small Block Chevy 383 of Corvette origin. Comp cams XE284H flat tappet cam, Torker II intake, Quick Fuel 750DP carb, custom stainless headers. 420hp @ 5500rpm, 430lb.ft torque @ 3200rpm. Wet weight approx 1120kg.

Performance:
0-60 somewhere between 4 and 4.5 seconds but very hard to be consistent
0-100 about 10.5 seconds
Top speed - geared for 160mph at 5500rpm in 5th but in reality about 145mph due to terrible aerodynamics

Wheels: Image Halibrand replicas, 18inch rims.
Tyres: Falken F452 18/285/35 rear, 18/235/40 front.
